Data protection officer under Greek law

Designation of the Data Protection Officer (DPO) in Greece

Article 37 (4) GDPR contains an opening clause that allows the member states to further specify the obligation to designate the data protection officer. The Greek legislator has not made use of this right.

Notification of the data protection officer to the authorities

In order to notify the Greek data protection authority of the designation of the data protection officer, a special form must be completed and submitted electronically to the authority via its web portal.

Exception

In case the registration in the Authority’s designated portal is not possible for a specific reason, the designation of a Data Protection Officer may be notified by e-mail. (to: dpo-announcement@dpa.gr)

However, it should be noted that this way of communication can only be used in exceptional circumstances as an additional solution for notifying the authority. This is because this way does not offer the possibility of managing the data of the Data Protection Officer via the web portal of the Authority.
