Create a video surveillance sign in accordance with the GDPR
According to the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), if you want to use video surveillance in your company – e.g. closed-circuit TV (CCTV) – you must inform data subjects about the processing of their data (Art. 13 GDPR). With our free generator, you can create a GDPR-compliant video surveillance notification sign and an informational bulletin in just a few easy steps.
With video surveillance, the European Data Protection Board recommends two stages of information for data subjects. The first consists of a notification sign containing information about the controller and, if necessary, the data protection officer as well as the purpose, legal basis and retention period of the video surveillance. Additionally, the sign must contain a reference to the informational bulletin that is to be provided in the second stage. This second-stage notice provides the data subject with extensive information about his or her rights under the GDPR.
The purpose of this two-stage presentation is to ensure the sign is a clear and transparent notice that is not overloaded with information. In the second stage, extensive information can be offered, which is not limited to the space where the sign is displayed.
With our free generator, you will get a video surveillance notification sign and the accompanying informational bulletin with your own company information as a printable PDF. The first page contains the notification sign, and the following pages contain the bulletin.
The video surveillance sign should be displayed so that data subjects can see all the information before they are recorded by cameras. Therefore, the informational bulletin must be referenced in such a way that data subjects are easily made aware of it from outside the surveillance area. Referencing a website, for example, would meet this criterion.
